Labor Member for Reid, Sally Sitou, has announced that a re-elected Albanese Labor Government will support the 2026 Rhodes Lunar New Year Festival, delivered by the Rhodes Multicultural Community Association (RMCA).

This $40,000 election commitment will help the RMCA ensure the continued growth and success of the festival in one of Sydney’s most diverse suburbs. The much-loved two-day festival is one of the signature multicultural events in the community, drawing more than 10,000 attendees annually.

It celebrates Lunar New Year through traditional performances, lion dances, cultural displays, food stalls and
family-friendly activities, all while promoting intercultural understanding and community spirit.

RMCA reinvests proceeds from its festivals into free English classes, dance and music programs, and weekly activities for seniors and young families — helping reduce isolation and build inclusion.

This funding builds on Labor’s broader commitment to supporting multicultural communities and fostering community-led events that reflect Australia’s vibrant diversity.

Consistent with past practice, election commitments will be delivered in line with Commonwealth Grants Rules and Principles.

Quotes attributable to Member for Reid, Sally Sitou MP:

“This funding will help ensure the continued growth and success of the festival in one of Sydney’s most diverse suburbs.”
